Is there not a better Info Sys book?

Disappointingly out of date already (e.g. Ipods) but that's a given with most tech based books. What's really disapponting is the attempt to suggest common economic and business ideas as something only Information System instead of using them to show how Info Sys can benefit them. My instructor had to bounce throughout the book to keep topics together where the books presents as a little gain spread across chapters.

Five stars for a textbook!

Rented this textbook for a computer science class. Though it was mandatory reading, this was one of the easier textbooks to get through. Each chapter was easy to digest and understand, used real life examples to illustrate points and had plenty of discussion questions that led you to think like a manager about information technology in business, and it wasn't a pain to carry around as it is paperback.

McDonald does an excellent job capturing the teenage voice in Hanna

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I give it 3.5 stars.

As someone who loves all things paranormal, I was very excited to give this book a try. The story picks up quickly with a teenage girl named Hanna witnessing a murder in an alley outside a club. After the attacker flees the scene, the victim marks Hanna with a strange symbol before he dies. Soon, Hanna finds herself experiencing strange visions and having nightmares that leave her with wounds and scars. I don't want to give away any of the mystery, but let's just say I found myself saying, "Whoa—I didn't see that coming!" quite a bit. McDonald does an excellent job capturing the teenage voice in Hanna, and I found myself liking her character, as well as those of her friends. I also enjoyed the nicknames Hanna gives to certain characters she meets. (You'll see what I mean when you read it.) There is a love triangle that develops, and honestly, I'm still not sure which side I'm on. Oh, and the cliffhanger end hurts so good! Why do you do this to me, T.L. McDonald??? MARKED is a rollercoaster ride of mystery mixed with the classic YA elements we all know and love, and it sets up perfectly for the next installment in the series.

All that said, this book lost a star and a half for me because of some editing issues. There were mixed up words (lose vs. loose, to vs. too, peek vs. peak, break vs. brake, etc.) and grammatical errors that frequently pulled me out of the story. It is unfortunate because I really liked the story premise, and I think other YA Paranormal fans will, too. The twists and turns of the plot kept me turning pages despite the errors, so for those who can overlook them, MARKED is worth a read.

Hanna is a typical teenage girl - not the prettiest, not the most popular, and totally not prepared for what lies in wait for her. A deadly encounter in an alley behind a nightclub leaves her with a mark on her arm that not only glows blue but provides her with supernatural powers that can neither explain nor control. To make matters worse, there seems to be a wicked, fallen angel she dubs "Blondie" dogging her at every step.

As her life slips from normal into paranormal, she finds herself keeping secrets from friends and family, all while juggling the attentions of two hot guys - lifelong friend Jared who has always had a thing for Hanna, and Will, the only guy able to help explain what's happening to her.

I was quite impressed with Ms. McDonald's debut effort. Hanna was a good main character (even though she was a bit whiny sometimes), and the chemistry she had with Jared was terrific. I liked how she discovered little details of her new situation a piece at a time instead of all at once, and the ending set up the next book in the series very well.

I look forward to reading more of this series!

Hanna Harper is a normal 17-yr old girl with two best friends, though after a wild night at a club her world changes forever. After witnessing a murder and waking up in the hospital with a strange symbol on her wrist, she begins to experience things that she can’t explain. She needs help, but who can she trust?
Her long time best friend (and next door neighbor) Jared, is her rock, the one person she can rely on. Can she tell him her secrets? Kat, her other best friend, is your typical “all about me” girl. Is their friendship strong enough that Hanna can depend upon her as well? And newcomer Will, just moved to town after the murder. Who is this new kid with a faux mohawk and motorcycle? Is he friend or foe?

The theme of this book focused on friendship with a few different love triangles thrown in to cause a good amount of conflict and drama. The confusing emotions between Hanna, Jared, Kat, and Will are too much for one person to handle. In order to protect the ones she loves, Hanna has to make several very difficult decisions. But can she resist those tempting green eyes and dimples?

‘“It’s cool.” Jared winks flashing a grin. “I also laugh hysterically at random times.”
“His green eyes, so alive and so eager take me in, and in them I don’t feel so alone. He smiles and I melt leaving the rational side of me to drown in his kisses.”
I LOVED this book! The storyline was perfectly paced, I never felt the need to skim over boring parts (because there weren’t any). I love stories that are character driven, and this one pulled me in from the beginning! I felt connected with the characters as I watched the storyline unravel. I laughed, I cringed, and I tensed up in fear for what was coming next.
Not sure how you did it, but T.L. McDonald made me crush on Jared (a 17-yr old boy), he is totally swoon-worthy! It is an amazing story, such a fresh idea with interesting twists! I immediately went out to grab book 2!

All his life, he preferred manipulating connections with the rich and powerful to playing by the rules diligently. von Hoffman's biography is a fuller and more damning account than Sidney Zion's The Autobiography of Roy Cohn ( LJ 4/15/88), but it is fair; the extensive testimony from friends and foes alike make this almost an oral history. The chapter on Cohn's Washington years as counsel to Senator Joe McCarthy seems curiously out of focus, but the narrative quickly picks up steam as it details the indictments by Bobby Kennedy's Justice Department, the glory years as New York power broker, and finally disbarment and death from AIDS. A Venal Man

He began his career by suborning the perjury that put an innocent woman in the electric chair. He was very proud of this. He lied, cheated and stole his entire life. He bribed judges and threatened witnesses. As a legal technician he was completely inept, unread in the law and ignorant of basic trial practice. His best and most frequently used courtroom tactic was the continuance. He was a fixer of the highest magnitude. He was disbarred just before he withered away from AIDS, way too late to do society any good. He is unmourned and unmissed. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Still, Roy Cohn did live a life that makes for interesting reading and Nicholas Von Hoffman has pieced it all together in this wonderful biography. "Citizen Cohn" will be the source book on this annoying gnat of a man long after Cohn has joined his pal Walter Winchell in obscurity. "Citizen Cohn" is both serious and blisteringly funny, anecdotal, and gossipy. Mr. Von Hoffman trods the well-worn path of Cohn's early years-how he got David Greenglass to lie from the witness stand and send his sister Ethel Rosenberg to the death house at Sing Sing, how he used the notoriety he gained from the Rosenberg trial to vault to a position as Senator Joe McCarthy's witch hunter in chief, how he was caught red-handed trying to arrange special favors for his "special friend" G. David Schine, a humble army private who was also a member of McCarthy's staff (in Lillian Hellman's great phrase, Cohn and Schine and McCarthy were "...Bonnie and Bonnie and Clyde")-but it is Roy Cohn in New York where "Citizen Cohn" sparkles.
Cohn the uber lawyer was both powerful and petty. He could make or break a federal judical nominee; he also wouldn't pay his electric bill. Cohn needed massive amounts of cash to maintain his dashing man about town persona (dashing, but closeted in the most transparent of closets) and he didn't care how he got it. He stole so much money from so many clients that the wonder isn't why it took so long to disbar him but why some outraged victim didn't simply shoot him. Mr. Von Hoffman minces no words in describing Cohn's lifetime of thievery and fortifies his revelations with the testimonials of those who were there. The writing is evocative, gray and somber during the McCarthy era, light and breezy during the disco years. There is an illuminating word picture of Roy Cohn at Studio 54, where he was royalty, standing with one of his handsome young men, both clad all in black, sunglasses, lights beating down on them in the middle of the floor, music blaring, the two standing stock-still, posing, profiling "...like secret service agents at the beach".
When it was almost over he took to wearing an orange phosphorescent tuxedo. This blatant self-promoter was reduced to wearing an outlandish coat that screamed "Look at me! Look at me!". It was a pathetic, but fitting, end to a pathetic man.

Nicholas von Hoffman is a brilliant columnist who, if this book is any indication, should stick to shorter-format works. CITIZEN COHN is fact-packed, and has some well-drawn anecdotes, but overall it is an unwieldy and disorganized tome. Von Hoffman jumps forward and back in time, in an almost stream-of-consciousness style, which bogs down the narrative and muddies the chronology of events he recounts. In the space of one paragraph, he darts from 1954 to 1980-something and then back to 1964, bringing in a parallel but unrelated incident involving entirely different players.

If you have a lot of time on your hands, and access to a high-speed internet connection to provide additional context for his stories, this great lump of a book can help kill a few hours here and there, but to someone who admires von Hoffman's usual style, it was a serious disappointment.

About the Author

Christopher Shields studied English Literature and Classics at Bowling Green State University, in Ohio, before taking an M.A. and Ph. D. in Philosophy from Cornell University. He has been Professor of Philosophy and Classics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Professor of Classical Philosophy at the University of Oxford, and is currently Shuster Professor of Philosophy and Concurrent Professor of Classics at the University of Notre Dame. He has held visiting positions at Cornell, Yale, Stanford, The Humboldt University, Berlin, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The worst book ever!

This is with no doubt the absolute worst book I've ever read in my life for it is just filled with uncertainties and so many ridiculous points of views that you just end up being lost. The book instead of giving you answers for somewhat reasonable questions it just makes you wonder more. I think its very stupid the fact that Aristotle mixed psychological implications with the soul's qualities. It just seems to me that for Aristotle the soul is like the mind which is complete nonsense. Just don't buy it. The book is also incomprehensible since the author is constantly explaining complex matters with very unusual words which makes you feel extremely confused.

About the Author
Ismaiel Aldean is an Iraqi native who qualified from Baghdad Medical School before completing his Surgical training in the United Kingdom. There he met his Irish wife Mary and the two returned to Iraq to start their lives together, living there for 12 years. During those years, Aldean built his own hospital and was directly involved in the vicious eight-year Iraq-Iran war as a leading surgeon on the front line, where he dealt with some of the most horrific medical cases and witnessed the human tragedy of war. Due to his position in society, he interacted with top political leaders, including Saddam Hussein. These encounters gave him a rare insight into the unknown side of Saddam’s personality and the positive impression he left on the dictator was eventually the reason he made it out alive. Aldean stated that, after receiving a tip from a member of the government in 1990, he and his family left Iraq unaware of why they were being advised to leave. It was not until they landed in the U.K. that the invasion of Kuwait was announced in the media and the realization that they would never return struck home. Aldean spent the following years rebuilding a life for his family and worked at Trafford General Hospital, Manchester, for 13 years before retiring in 2010. Aldean was appointed as colorectal surgeon in 1997, served as divisional director of surgery for nine years and was awarded seven Clinical Excellence Awards for his work. During his time in Manchester, he was also appointed tutor and examiner at Manchester Medical School and examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons in Scotland.

A remarkable story offering a fascinating insight not only into Ismaiel's family life but also into that of the Iraqi people under the eventual ruthless dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. The reality of war, highlighted through case history examples, depicts not only the expertise of the medical staff under extreme conditions but also the resilience and courage of the injured. This story of passion and concern for family, friends and patients, from the days of privilege through to the days during which fear permeated under Hussein's stronghold on the Iraqi people, must have presented the author with heart-wrenching moments of recall when writing this well documented narrative.

Being of Iranian origin and a surgical trainee I was naturally very interested and drawn to this book and I have to say that it was an absolutely incredible read!
The book tells the accounts of one mans experiences of war time Iraq whilst working as a general surgeon. Once I'd picked it up, I couldnt put it down. A truely compelling read that gives incredible insight into the struggles of man during war time. The accounts are told beautifully and succinctly and take the reader on an emotional journey whilst exposing him/her to the true horrors of war and the nature of man, both good and evil. Thoroughly recommend this!

The book gives an intimate insight into Iraq and the character of Saddam Hussein that brings a new dimension to understanding the events and history of that country since Saddam Hussein came to power.

It is also an easy and very enjoyable read. I was sorry when it came to an end!

Worth Getting Before Starting a 68332 Design

This book gives a different look at the 68332. Most of the information is available in Motorola's documents but this is a good cross reference and introduces additional ways of looking at the complicated microprocessor. The book covers the "A" mask and not the "G" Mask as it was written in 1991 maybe before the "G" Mask was available.
Some of the sections give insights into the operation that are not clearly discussed in the Motorola documentation. For this alone I think it is worth purchasing.
Be advised that the hardware development systems shown have been replaced by better equipment since 1991. However the basic processor has not changed and there are insights to be gained by study of this Reference. Many assembly language examples are given throughtout the text.

Tony Bridwell is an international speaker, consultant, and coach, making a difference at some of the world's largest organizations and churches. When Bridwell is not traveling the globe, he turns his efforts toward home by teaching a Bible Study class at his local church. This book deserves 10 stars!

This book was eye opening, I found peace with something I have struggled with for the past 5 years. I found myself being more honest with myself and God than I ever had before. I questioned every step and did not have faith in the plan. In 3 questions, my answer was there, black and white, the WORD, I have read these passages before, but never did I really SEE the answer... That is not till now. This book forces you to be honest, forces you to come face to face with God. I thought I was listening before, but now, I HEAR you Lord! I urge anyone reading these reviews to GET THIS BOOK, use it, it's designed to start being a difference maker in yourself first, and prepares you for becoming a difference maker to others. Powerful read! Thank you Lord, for the vessel you have created in Tony Bridwell! AMAZING!!!

This Book is a Difference Maker!

Powerful, insightful and instructional! I had an opportunity to read excerpts from the book before it was published and spoke with the Author as he was in the final stages of putting it together and cannot wait to get my copy. This has changed the way I look at serving others and helping others. Following the teachings found within will not only make a difference in the lives of those you serve, it will make a difference in your own life! 5 Stars!

I've had the good fortune to have gotten to know Tony through God putting us in each others path during a short stint where both of our families moved to Pennsylvania. Tony has a passion for God and a passion for people, and he has used the talents God has given him in his Sunday school and his work to encourage and mentor others.

I just finished reading his new book - couldn't put it down. It is very well written, easy to read through a fable-style story, and lays out a biblical process to mentoring and accountability. Whether we know it or not, we are impacting the lives of family, friends and even casual acquaintances - sometimes positively, sometimes maybe not. This gets me thinking more consciously about what impact God wants me to have on others, and how I need mentors who can help me with my own accountability.

Definitely worth the read!
