A great entry-level guide

Let me start by saying I'm an adult who is serious about learning everything I can about shooting sport and I do own several other books on the subject.... That said, it is important to note that this book is definitely geared mainly towards younger adolescent shooters, junior high level more or less in other words.... and therefore is moderately cartoonish and simple in it's approach with lots of attention grabbing highlights and flair.... However, there is a wealth of information loaded into this small, easily portable and handy guide that is not only important to all shooters who want to learn and improve their mechanics, but it also contains helpful information about relaxation, exercise and fitness routines, building agility and flexibility etc. This is not a comprehensive high power shooters bible, but a very solid introduction and entry level training guide. If you value knowledge that is easy to read and digest, and recognize this book's focus and limitations, and you can appreciate the relatively low cost to purchase it, you will be glad you got it.

Not Bad - For A Kids Book

Someplace it should have been disclosed that this is a book written for kids - probably middle schoolers.
That said, this 51 year old new shooter got some good info from the book. The pictures and illustrations helped make the point. As a beginner I found even the cartoons well done.

Worthwhile but some issues

The text is aimed at quite literate adolescents. The vocabulary used certainly doesn't talk down to kids. The book contains cartoon figure sidekicks throughout the text and various activity areas that appear to be targeted at a much younger audience than the actual text. This mix of styles may be slightly off-putting for the more sophisticated teenage reader while younger readers will find the text daunting.
Overall, the substantive content is good for anyone interested in competing seriously in bullseye rifle or pistol shooting. As the authors are German, there are elements that don't translate well to the North American situation. Many references are made to coaches and the assumption appears to be that every shooting club will have capable Olympic oriented coaches that a young shooter will turn to for practical advice and training. In Canada and the USA such coaches are a relative rarity, so the reader may feel somewhat disadvantaged at having to learn in isolation.
The book does a good job of driving home that to be a serious competitor requires considerable thought and dedicated, focused training. I believe that when I was a young teen (who aspired to compete at the national level) I would have taken away valuable lessons from this book.
