A perfect book to introduce the "new baby" to a young child.

I used this book first to introduce the idea of a new baby to my 2 year old daughter. She loves the pictures of the entire family involved in care of the new baby. She consistently requests this book over all others. I like that the author explains why the baby cries (because she might be wet or hungry) and involves the big sister in the daily care of the child. The importance of big sister's role in the family is played up. The story is told by the "big sister" and ends with Mom and Dad hugging the big sister and her confident exclamation that they love her and that she's "the only me."

I like the book EXCEPT that as a breastfeeding mother one ...

I like the book EXCEPT that as a breastfeeding mother one of the things I really wanted to prepare my nursing toddler for was that the baby would be nursing from my breasts and that he/she would have priority since she can't eat big girl foods. Unfortunately the only image around feeding the baby is a daddy giving the baby a bottle. For this reason I would not recommend it for breastfeeding mothers. Otherwise I think its a great book and I will probably just paste in a different picture for that page

Comparison of two "Big Sister" books

This is a cute book. I gave it as a gift to an expecting mom with a 4-ish year old daughter (the big sister). It is generic enough that it applies whether the new sibling will be a boy or girl. I don't like the books that have the older sibling saying "my baby" throughout, and this one did not, so that was a pro for me. I bought two books, this one and I Am a Big Sister by Caroline Church. While I thought the other one was wayyyy cuter (the illustrations were cuter and I liked the cadence more) and would be great for any toddler, it was more appropriate for the 2 year old big sister I gave it to, while this one was a little more appropriate for the older big sister. This one went into a little bit more about the details of being a big sister than the other. In the future, I will probably buy the other one for any age toddler because it's just too darn cute, but I was happy with both and the content/style is comparable.
